The Yule marble deposit sits 9,300 feet above sea level in the Rocky Mountains, near Marble, Colorado.
The quarry's original entrance, still called the "main portal" currently is 250 feet from the quarry floor.
Minerals give this 9' deep pool of water, which seeps into the quarry from the mountain, its aqua color.
Colorado Yule Marble is a world class white marble known for its purity, fine texture, and compact crystallization.
The lustrous white Yule Marble has often been compared to the fine statuary marbles of Italy and Greece. It has been the marble of choice for national monuments in the United States, used in the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Yule marble is nearly pure calcite. Tightly joined calcite grains give the marble its luminous appearance.
